Who Is the WWE Champion Right Now? Current Title Holder and Recent Reigns
Quick answer — Sami Zayn is the Undisputed WWE Champion; his reign began on Sept. 11, 2026, when he beat CM Punk on SmackDown. This was checked on Tuesday, Oct. 20, and no title change has been reported since.
Who holds the Undisputed WWE Championship?
| Title | Champion | Since | Won from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Undisputed WWE Championship | Sami Zayn | Sept. 11, 2026 | CM Punk, on SmackDown |
The name and date come from WWE.com's Undisputed WWE Championship history page, which lists Zayn's reign as running from Sept. 11, 2026 to the present. WWE.com's SmackDown results for Sept. 11 and CBS Sports' SmackDown report both have Zayn beating Punk for the title that night.
Who held the title before Sami Zayn?
WWE.com's title history lists these six most recent reigns, newest first.
| Champion | Reign |
|---|---|
| Sami Zayn | Sept. 11, 2026 – present |
| CM Punk | July 6, 2026 – Sept. 11, 2026 |
| Sami Zayn | June 27, 2026 – July 6, 2026 |
| Cody Rhodes | March 6, 2026 – June 27, 2026 |
| Drew McIntyre | Jan. 9, 2026 – March 6, 2026 |
| Cody Rhodes | Aug. 3, 2025 – Jan. 9, 2026 |
Read the first three rows together: Zayn held the belt for nine days in June and July, lost it to Punk, and won it back on Sept. 11. That is why the Sept. 11 win is his second reign in this list.
Is the Undisputed WWE Champion the same as the World Heavyweight Champion?
No. WWE.com lists them as two titles. The World Heavyweight Championship belongs to Roman Reigns, whose reign dates from April 19, 2026 on WWE.com's page. Zayn and Reigns had a face-to-face segment on the Monday, Oct. 19 Raw in San Diego, which the Raw recaps we read describe as Reigns confronting Zayn over the Undisputed title. Crown Jewel is on Saturday, Nov. 7, but we haven't seen a match between them made official, so we don't list one.
When does Zayn defend the title next?
No Undisputed WWE Championship match is confirmed on the pages we read on Tuesday, Oct. 20. WWE.com's schedule card puts Crown Jewel on Saturday, Nov. 7. If a title match is announced, it will show up on our list of every current WWE champion, which covers all 18 WWE titles, including NXT and Evolve.
Which show does the champion appear on?
Zayn won the title on SmackDown, but WWE.com's title page doesn't tie the championship to one show. SmackDown is next on Friday, Oct. 23, at 8 p.m. ET on USA Network; see our SmackDown page. The most recent Raw, on Monday, Oct. 19, is covered in our Raw results, with the next one on the Raw start time page. The full week is on the WWE and AEW TV schedule.
