What time does Survivor 51 start?
| Time zone | Wednesday, Sept. 23 | Wednesdays from Sept. 30 |
|---|---|---|
| Eastern | 8:00–10:00 p.m. | 8:00–9:30 p.m. |
| Central | 7:00–9:00 p.m. | 7:00–8:30 p.m. |
| Mountain | 7:00–9:00 p.m. | 7:00–8:30 p.m. |
| Pacific | 8:00–10:00 p.m. | 8:00–9:30 p.m. |
That is the standard CBS "8/7c" pattern — the coasts run their own feeds at 8 p.m. local, the middle of the country an hour earlier. Alaska and Hawaii affiliates set their own clocks, so check a local listing rather than the network one.
The premiere is double length. The regular season then runs 90 minutes, the seventh straight year Survivor has used that length instead of a flat hour.

How do you stream it on Paramount+?
That depends on which plan you pay for, and it is the one detail worth getting right before Wednesday.
| Plan | When you get it |
|---|---|
| Paramount+ Premium | Live, at the same minute as CBS, through the live station feed |
| Paramount+ Essential | On demand the next day |
The live feed on Premium is your local CBS station, so it depends on where the account says you are. Essential subscribers are not shut out — they are a day behind, which matters mostly if you plan to talk about a tribal council before Thursday. Plan prices for both tiers sit in our 2026 price list.

What's actually different about season 51?
Jeff Probst is calling it the open era. If you are weighing it against the streaming alternative, the difference in shape is the point: broadcast doles it out once a week, while Netflix hands over most of a season at once, a trade-off we picked apart in our weekly-versus-binge guide. His framing: anything the show has ever done — any twist, any advantage, from any season — is available again, in any order, with no warning. After nine seasons of the tightly defined "new era" and the milestone 50th, that is a reset of the rulebook rather than a new gimmick.
Twenty-one players start, which is an odd number for the first time since 2007, and the split is 11 women to 10 men. They begin in two tribes rather than three, a configuration the show has not used since Winners at War. Filming ran April 18 to May 13 in Fiji's Mamanuca Islands, the nineteenth consecutive season shot there, over the usual 26 days.
If you want to know what they are wearing while all that happens, our sister site has a breakdown of the season 51 wardrobe rules — buffs, what production issues and what players bring themselves.
How many episodes will there be?
CBS has not published a full episode list, which is normal this early; the network confirms the premiere and the weekly slot and fills in the rest as the season runs. What is announced is the pattern: Sept. 23 for two hours, Sept. 30 for 90 minutes, Wednesdays after that. For scale, season 49 opened on Sept. 24, 2025 and finished on Dec. 17 — so plan for a December ending, not a November one.
What else is on that night?
Netflix drops seven episodes of Wonka's The Golden Ticket at 3 a.m. ET the same Wednesday, which makes the 23rd the busiest reality day of the month. The Traitors: New Blood holds Thursdays on NBC, MobLand takes Fridays on Paramount+, and the whole slate is in our week rundown. Other per-title pages are on the release times hub, and Paramount+ coverage lives under Hulu, Max, Peacock and Paramount+.
FAQ
Can I watch Survivor 51 without cable? Yes. Paramount+ Premium includes the live CBS feed, and any live TV package carrying CBS works too. Essential gets it a day later for less money.
Is the premiere really two hours? Yes — 8 to 10 p.m. ET on Sept. 23, with the marooning that recent seasons had dropped. The 90-minute format starts the following week.
Are there returning players? No. All 21 are new, announced by CBS on Aug. 25, 2026 — a different approach from the batch-of-veterans idea Netflix keeps reaching for in its own competition shows.
Where does the past library live? Paramount+ carries earlier seasons, which is the same place the new episodes land — convenient if the open-era premise sends you back to look something up.
