What Time Does A Different World Come Out on Netflix? Release Time and All 10 Episodes

Hillman College reopens on a Thursday, and it reopens on the same calendar date it opened the first time. Netflix put A Different World on Sept. 24, 2026 — thirty-nine years to the day after NBC aired the original pilot in 1987. Nobody involved is being coy about that.

Here is the practical part: the drop hour, how many episodes arrive on day one, who walked back onto the set, and whether you need six seasons of homework first. Short answer to the last one — no, but the homework is sitting on the same app.

What time does A Different World come out?

Netflix releases on one global clock, and this is no exception: midnight Pacific, which is 3 a.m. on the East Coast. West of the Rockies, you get it the night before.

How many episodes, and do they all arrive at once?

Ten half-hour episodes, all ten on Sept. 24. No weekly rollout, no split season, no part two in November.

That makes it the odd one out this fall. Most of what premieres around it is metered: Survivor 51 runs one broadcast episode a week into December, Paramount+ hands out MobLand a Friday at a time, and Netflix even split Wonka's The Golden Ticket into two batches. Who is back at Hillman?

The spine of it is Maleah Joi Moon as Deborah Wayne, youngest daughter of Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert, starting her freshman year at the school her parents made famous and trying to be something other than their kid.

Both parents are played by the people who played them the first time: Kadeem Hardison and Jasmine Guy. Around them, a long list of Hillman alumni came back — Cree Summer as Freddie Brooks, Darryl M. Bell as Ron Johnson, Dawnn Lewis as Jaleesa Vinson-Taylor, Glynn Turman as Colonel Bradford Taylor, Charnele Brown as Dr. Kimberly Reese Boyer, Jenifer Lewis as Professor Davenport, and Jada Pinkett Smith as Lena James. The freshman class is new: Alijah Kai, Chibuikem Uche, Cornell Young IV, Jordan Aaron Hall and Kennedi Reece, with Method Man also in the cast.

Felicia Pride is the showrunner. Debbie Allen is an executive producer and directs three episodes, the premiere among them — the same job she took over after season one of the original, when she was brought in to make the show feel like an actual historically Black college instead of a set. Reggie Rock Bythewood, Gina Prince-Bythewood and Tom Werner also produce.

Do you need to watch the original first?

No. Deborah is a new student and the show is built to be entered cold. But the original is unusually easy to get to, because it is on the same service you are already opening.

Thursday is the crowded day, but the week around it is busy too. Wonka's The Golden Ticket takes Wednesday the 23rd on the same 3 a.m. clock, and Survivor takes two hours of CBS that night.
